I am child of the soil

I hale from a land imbedded with inequalities and institutionalised with racism,

Where the colour of my skin excluded me and attempted to detect my destiny,

I am child of the soil,

I was forced to live in dwellings that were chosen for me,

I was born into a system that limited my abilities,

I was made to believe that “black” has a negative connotation,

I am a child of the soil

I embody strength not because of my struggle but because,

When my forefathers transitioned, they left me with hope,

The kind of hope that manifested possibilities,

Possibilities that exude the capabilities of Africans,

I am a child of the soil

Not because of the oppression,

I am child of the soil because I conquered the oppressor’s mental bondage and chose liberation!

I am child of the soil and I belong to her!
