Story Time

Now more than ever is the appropriate time for young people to build strategic networks. This could curb youth unemployment in Africa.

The government will not save the youth!

Youth unemployment is a universal challenge on the African continent. Young people are affected by unemployment in Africa. Statistics of youth unemployment persistently increase yearly. The question that we need to refrain from asking is what the government is doing to assist the youth to access job opportunities. The question we should turn our focus on is how can the youth build strategic networks to foster opportunities?

The upsurge of the coronavirus demonstrated that working remotely and virtually is viable. We also discovered that some people were more efficient working from home. The upsurge of the coronavirus also exposed us to the possibilities online. We also connected with people across the world and built networks.

Maybe its time to leverage on online opportunities and networks?

The future of the world of work is gradually evolving. Hybrid models are being put in place in various organisations. Flexibility in the workplace is becoming a reality. Now more than ever could be the appropriate time for young people to form alliances across the continent. This will enable them to network, access opportunities and create a space for information sharing.

We need to realise that the notion of “life won’t be what we’ve known it to be” has finally confirmed to be true. Our lives are changing and it’s a little overwhelming to watch life unfold. It is overwhelming because we have no idea of what the future holds for young people in Africa. Amid life unfolding, let us use this as an opportunity to build strategic alliances and networks that will foster opportunities.

It all begins with connecting with young people online with similar interests and discussing possible ways of working together. It also can be as little as sharing valuable information to the next young person on the continent.

Bottom Line

Now is the time to create an enabling atmosphere of strategic networking, alliance building and information sharing. That is where we will find and create sustainable opportunities for the youth in Africa. Now is the time for young people on the African continent to curb youth unemployment. The future of the youth lies in their own hands. All that we have is each other.

Africans for their own solutions.
