Story Time

Being a creative is a blessing in Africa. As a creative, you are placed in a position to look at the world from a different perspective. You become a catalyst of change. Creativity is expression. The kind of expression that is liberating to yourself and soul. Being able to use your creativity effectively in society is rewarding.

Creativity is a platform to use expression to echo the vibrancy of Africa. Creativity is also echoing social ills and addressing challenges.

The Creative economies are the most dynamic sectors in providing new opportunities for developing countries. The upsurge of the pandemic revealed some of the continental realities and struggles faced by creatives on the continent. From the imposed restrictions, to the numerous funding opportunities being cancelled.

It has been a very difficult time for creatives in the world. How do we ensure that we reignite their fire to adapt in an uncertain world?

Here are some pointers that we have for the creatives to build resilience in uncertain world:

  1. COVID-19 should not prevent you from creating!
  2. You are not a failure!
  3. Use COVID-19 to inspire your work.
  4. Its time to begin looking at the world in a different light.
  5. Maybe it’s time for collaborations not competition?
  6. Let’s strengthen our online communities and make them home!
  7. Expose yourself to technology and what it has to offer!
  8. Belong to an online international community.
  9. Be open to learning more about what the creative economy has to offer, to better position yourself as a creative entrepreneur .
  10. Have a plan from now and post COVID-19 to better your operations.

These pointers helped me as creative. They could save a creative on the continent. Please take heart and keep on creating.
