Story Time

Creatives play a critical role in creating awareness of social issues in society. Creatives are analytical individuals who add meaning using pictures, words or visual arts. Creatives spend their time exploring the world and attempting to find meaning in everything. They are liberals waiting to liberate others. This creative is from Kenya. Let us read about what being an African creative means for Wambui Ochieng.

What does being a creative mean for you as a young woman?

Being a creative is living my truest self; the one that makes me happy.  Though it’s difficult expressing in a society that is used to repressing.

How has being a creative impacted the work that you do?

Seeing the world through multiple lenses. Seeing the world in many colors, appreciating the diversity in everyone and changing what I cannot accept in the world. It’s just immersing myself in everything that I do and loving it while at it.

Please tell us about your projects and where can we find them?

I am working to build an impactful Feminist media house: Gemini Spice Studios.  It’s coming slow because of little finances and other projects.

But starting the first part; Gemini Spice Magazine where we tell stories of Afrikan Women really builds me . We are working on a magazine issue and an App that will help us accomplish our goals which are:

(a) Creating awareness of sexual violence

(b) Linking victims to post trauma services
