Opinion- An tribute to the world champions for driving national unity
October 31, 2023

I am just a girl with a big heart, who believes in her dreams. I am also just a girl who loves Africa and Africans. I was raised by my two amazing parents who hail from rural villages. I attribute my dreams to my rural parents whom in the first place inspired me to dream.

Holding my breathe
It was many moons ago well, not so many moons when I was still a student. A Professor at the University called me aside and asked what my plan was after graduating. I obviously mentioned the prospects of employment. My Professor again asked what happens when I don’t get access to employment opportunities. I didn’t have an answer however, I deeply pondered about his questions. Yes of course, he came bearing solutions. He asked me how I felt about traveling outside of South Africa and then suggested that I register a profile on a particular website.

I registered my profile and began reading about this organisation. I instantly fell in love with the organisation. I would browse through the organisation’s website daily and I even put it on my vision board. I searched and applied for  job opportunities close to three years on their website. I never gave up and still believed that a door of employment would open up. Well, unfortunately it did not employ me. The amusing part about this is that I made a promise to myself that one day this particular organisation would headhunt me.

Let’s just say, I didn’t bury the dream, I just decided to park it. On the day of taking a decision to park my dream of being employed by this particular organisation. I accidently, found another organisation partnered with my first love and I was thrilled. Once again, I read about this new organisation and fell in love again. So this time around, I was actively engaging with the content on the website and loved it. I willingly engaged with the content on the website and now this organisation went on my vision board.

To have courage to make changes

The organisation became my saving grace because it affirmed my place as a creative in society. It recognised and acknowledged the work of creatives in the world. Giving creatives a voice and allowing them to be. To be was what I needed for me to embrace the calling of being a creative. I just needed this affirmation and this organisation changed everything for me.

So, if there is one very crucial lesson I have learnt in my life, it is to never underestimate the power of  having a dream.  Your dreams are valid. Your dreams have a place in society to be fulfilled. There is a level of  grace when you honor dreams by taking actions. Sometimes, it starts with just you believing in yourself. There is no harm in redefining your dream and revisiting your vision board. Sometimes, the alignment you need is things falling apart or things just not going as planned.

Realise that everything is working for you and yes sometimes it doesn’t feel that way. Breathe life to your dreams. I dare you to dream.
