Story Time

The year 2021 took us by surprise. We had hopes, plans and dreams that we were set to achieve. Some dreams and hopes were fulfilled, others not. Even when we feel as though we lost, there are certain victories that we need to echo. One victory I believe that needs to be echoed is personal development.

Believe it or not many people developed personally and professionally in 2021. The kind of personal development that gives you courage the to hold yourself accountable for your finances. The personal development that urged you to make health-conscious decisions regarding your health. Setting boundaries with individuals that take advantage of your kindness. Learning to be very comfortable in your own skin even when you haven’t accomplished that desired weight loss.

Leaning into loving yourself more and practicing self-awareness. Embracing the discomfort that comes with change and stepping outside of your comfort zone. This is a form of personal development and also requires celebration. We need to acknowledge every milestone and count it as an achievement. Honoring a commitment to reading more books.

It involves you taking extra projects at work and volunteering to teach someone a new skill. Sharing your input at a meeting. Developing new concepts and implementing them. Learning a new skill for the advancement of your career plan. Being a source of strength and positivity to the ones around you. Lending a helping hand to other team members. Taking leave when you don’t have the mental capacity to carry you. Being productive and not busy. Or maybe securing that promotion and salary increase.

In some or other way, a form of personal development took place this year and you need to celebrate yourself. Celebrate yourself for showing up on days where you had to beg yourself to get out of bed. On the days where everything was falling apart you were present.

So, if you think no development took place this year, think again. Give yourself a pat on the back and celebrate every milestone because you did that!
